New Pattern: Knit Headband with Waves

Foglie rosse

Welcome, Autumn!

The knit headband with waves is finally ready. It is soft and cozy, perfect for the chilly days. It can be used also as a neck warmer.

It can be an appreciated gift idea to knit for Christmas and I will definitely duplicate it in different colors for my friends.

The pattern comes in three sizes: toddler, child, adult.

You can find this pattern on Etsy, Craftsy and Ravelry.

Happy knitting!

Empty Nest Syndrome

20140701_183254-001

Empty Nest Syndrome.

Or maybe not.

I am not talking about our lovely little girl who will turn 2 years soon, even if she is very independent. Sometimes even too much.

I am glad to announce that our two feathered guests finally learned to fly and left their nest. It happened so quickly that I did not even realize they abandoned us. I have to admit that I started worrying about them because my husband gave them food and it seemed they were lazy in taking flying lessons.

Anyway, one day I went on the balcony and did not find them anymore. They did not come not even for the night. I soon realized they went to live on their own.

Good luck little baby pigeons!

Italian Gestures Rap

Good morning! Buon giorno!

Today I discovered the “Italian Gestures Rap” on YouTube and I thought to share it with you. It was made by the US Consulate in Milan.

It is about a young American diplomat coming to Italy. He is disoriented because he does not understand what the Italians say. So he takes Italian lessons and he learns how to manage 16 different Italian gestures.

I never tought that “speaking with the hands” could be so difficult to understand for a foreigner. As an Italian, I have to say that I do not use the hands so frequently. When I ask for a coffee in a bar, I simply order a “caffè”. The gesture can be made when the place is crowded and it is difficult to be heard.

Enjoy the video!

Do you have similar gestures in your country too?

Our new special guests

Nido

Pigeons eggs

Hello!

I am so excited to announce you that we have two new special guests living with us for the next few months! They are quite discreet, independent and do not make too much noise…except in the morning when I hear them speaking their guttural and unintelligible language. As you may wonder, they are not humans but birds. We have two parents-to-be pigeons that chose our balcony as the perfect place where to build their nest. What I have always considered a small balcony for these birds is a habitable terrace. The female has already deposited two small white and smooth eggs. According to what I read, the hatch date seems to be close: within 2 weeks.

It is not the first time that a couple of pigeons choose our balcony to build the nest: the last time happened about three years ago. We saw two small and blondish baby birds coming out from the eggs and then started to take flight lessons.
This time it was a real surprise. We did not even notice they were building the nest.
I have to admit that at first I was not so happy to have pigeons living again on our balcony but my husband found a solution that convinced me. He used a board in order to delimit their space from ours. He cut it with a jigsaw to better adapt. Finally, he even decided to use a webcam in order to show our daughter what the pigeons are doing and how their babies will look like.

By the way, during the day (European time zone) you can see them here in streaming:

www.lunaticknitter.com/pigeons

The pigeons are online every day from 8 am till 8 pm.

The pigeons declare that they are aware of the rights under Art. 13 of Italian Law 675/96 and give their permission for their personal data to be used solely in this project nominated “Big Pigeons Brother”.

Come often to check when the eggs hatch!

Summer Sandals Knitting Pattern

Red summer sandals

Hello!

The hot season is finally in the air!
My summer sandals knitting pattern is now born. I was inspired by the memory of my first pair of shoes for the beach when I was just 1 year old.

Of course I can’t exactly remember those moments but I saw some pictures last day while tiding up my dining room. My shoes were red too and I liked to re-create them for little babies.

I hope you like them.

Kim Kardashian’s Wedding here in Florence

Forte_belvedere,_edificio_principale_07

Hello!

I have just learnt of the imminent wedding here in Florence (Firenze, in Italian) between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. They are going to get married on Saturday, May 24 at the Forte Belvedere.

In the past

This Fort has been built between 1590 – 1595 under Ferdinando I De’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. The main purposes of this building were to protect the city and to show the power of the De’ Medici dinasty.

Today

Today it is possible to visit the Palazzina di Belvedere, inside the Fort, which is open for exhibitions or other particular events.

From the exterior walls it is possible to have a gorgeous view of the city.

Kim, listen, I am very sorry that I will not be able to attend your wedding ceremony but next time (and I am sure there will be a next time) please let me know in advance so that I will not take other committments.

Joking aside, this city is very loved among foreigners and there are many couples who choose it for their marriage or honeymoon or simply for a trip.

Have you ever been here?

Hand knit sweater for my nephew

IMG-20140318-WA0000

Hello!

As I promised in my previous post, these are a couple of pictures of my last winter project: a hand knit sweater for my three years old nephew.

I chose a nice and soft cobalt blue yarn and worked it with circular needles. It was quick to knit, I made it in a couple of days. Well, I should say that I finished in a couple of days because I started this project in the middle of the winter and then put it in stand-by. When we decided to go to Rome, I had to hurry up to finish this sweater for my little nephew.

I worked the sleeves flat and then sewed them. The sewing was quite fast, not only the sleeves but also the underarms. I shaped it with raglans, for more comfort. I made the neckline big enough but elastic in order to avoid buttons.

Since my nephew is a huge fan of Cars, I applied Lightning McQueen’s patch on the front.

And this is the final result:

Being a little boy, he didn’t seem to appreciate this present quite as much as I had hoped. I had more luck with a small car!

Luckily his mother appreciated it more than him.
